As an educational consultant for parents of children with diagnosed or suspected disabilities, I will prepare you to become an active participant in the special education process. I do this by first teaching you about the special education laws and helping you to understand your child’s medical and educational evaluations, reports, and IEP or 504 Plan. I will advise you on your legal rights, and work with you to develop a strategy for advocacy. I will provide you with language and tools to effectively communicate at your team meeting. Finally, I will help you identify resources that will support your advocacy and family generally, including working with you to determine if and when you should invest the time and money in hiring an attorney or advocate to represent you.
